Dear [student],
I’m sorry
it’s been so difficult for us to connect. I didn’t want the year to end and for
you to move on to the IC without taking a moment to tell you what I KNOW about
you, what I’ve learned in the short amount of time I’ve had the opportunity to watch
and listen to your interactions with the world.
I’m going to use some words in
this letter that I wouldn’t use with other second graders because I KNOW that
if you do now know what the word means, you will find out. This shows your
motivation.
When Mrs. [teacher] asked you to
write about your favorite body part, you chose your spirit. What an original,
insightful, and wise answer!
The picture you made for me
during the kindness challenge was not only beautiful and colorful, but a pop-up
picture. How creative and fun!
You pay attention. You
remember small details that others forget. You are not afraid to be the person
who raises her hand with the correct answer when no one else knows. This shows
tenacity, courage, attention to detail, and bravery.
I hear you say that you are
not good at making friends. I have proven with the evidence above that
you are motivated, original, creative, fun, and insightful. You are tenacious,
courageous, attentive to detail, and brave. You are a deep thinker who is
polite, peaceful, and sensitive. You are spiritually wise beyond your years.
Above all, you are kind. Nothing will take you further in life than kindness.
Who WOULDN’T want a friend with all of those qualities? If you are searching
for that ONE person who will change your life, [student], look in the mirror!
[Student], you say you are not
good at making friends. You may think making friends is hard, but hear me now: you can do hard things!
Let people see the greatness
inside of you. Keep sharing these qualities with the world.
I consider myself very lucky
to have had the opportunity to be your School Counselor.
Sincerely,
Mrs. McKee
